Walking reduces the chances of diabetes.

Walking more steps per day reduces the risk of diabetes.
A new study has found that the more steps people take daily, the lower their risk of developing diabetes. According to Doctor Andrew Perry of a research institute based in Nashville, Tennessee, US, scientists investigated the relationship between physical activity and type 2 diabetes. In this study, researchers had participants wear electronic devices and used the data collected from them.
He said that the study found that people who spend more time in some form of physical activity are less likely to develop type 2 diabetes. The data revealed in the study highlights the importance of daily physical activity in reducing the risk of diabetes.
This research programme aims to improve individual health by enrolling more than 1 million people and collecting their data for several years. Over four years, researchers came across 97 new cases of diabetes. The study found that people who walked an average of 10,700 steps per day (a little over 8 kilometres) were 44 per cent less likely to develop diabetes than those who walked 6,000 steps. The study was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology and Metabolism.
